We are delighted to announce that booking is now open for the Scottish Public Law Group’s 11th Annual Conference, taking place on Monday 17 June 2019 at The Sheraton Grand Hotel, Festival Square, Edinburgh.

At this 11th Annual Conference, the SPLG will hear a keynote speech from Lady Dorrian, the Lord Justice Clerk and other insightful and topical contributions from a range of speakers including:

  • Jonathan Mitchell QC,  Arnot Manderson Advocates, providing the essential Scots Public Law update;
  • John Halford, Joint Head of Public Law and Human Rights at Bindmans LLP, updating on key English public law developments;
  • Professor Merris Amos, Professor of Human Rights Law, Queen Mary University of London on significant human rights cases in the UK and European Courts;
  • Professor Gordon Anthony, Queen’s University Belfast,  with an update on constitutional law and devolution issues in Northern Ireland, focussing on the Buick UKSC case and subsequent legislation enabling Northern Irish civil servants act in the absence of functioning political institutions.

The conference will also feature a session on EU law and Brexit.  Chaired by Sir David Edward, the topics to be covered in the session are an EU law update, EU law dimensions of Brexit, the domestic constitutional law implications of Brexit (so far as anyone can predict what will happen with Brexit!), and an overview of trends in strategic Brexit litigation with contributions from Dr Jack Simson Caird, Senior Research Fellow at the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law,  Maya Lester QC, Brick Court Chambers, Professor Aileen McHarg, Professor of Public Law, University of Strathclyde and Dr Christopher McCorkindale, Lecturer, University of Strathclyde.

The event will be eligible for 5.5 hours CPD. Registration from 9am – 9.25am. Refreshments and lunch will be provided. The conference will close at 5pm and will be followed by a drinks reception and opportunity to network until 6pm. The full programme will be available shortly.

Students studying toward an LLB or Dip.LP and Devil tickets are priced at £45.
